“STILL BUILDING”

It’s been a while since we last posted, but no worries…we’re still here; doing God’s work, getting souls delivered, and being a light to the darkness.

Our ministry is continuing to grow in so many ways and we give God all the praise for it.

This past Sunday, September 14th, we had Holy Hip-Hop group “The BREAX” visit us and minister a few songs.

And we also had one of our flock get baptized!

GLORY!!!!!!!!!!

Continue to stay tuned to see how God is continuing to bless, renew, and restore.

“TAKING A STAND”

Tomorrow starts our yearly, corporate, 21-day fast.  The focus of the fast is REPENTANCE.  We fast to discipline our bodies (1 Cor. 9:27), for self control (Prov. 25:28), to put the Spirit before the flesh (Gal. 5:17), to set priorities (Matt. 6:33), and to long after God (Ps. 63:1-2).

The fast will take a lot of focus…there is nothing easy about denying ourselves.  But we have to be willing to stand strong for the one that died for our sins.  God didn’t give His only son for us to simpy indulge our every want, whim, and desire.  Our goal in life should be our salvation and drawing nearer to Him with every breath He allows us to breathe.  The least we can do is take 21-days to show Him how much He means to us.  Isn’t it awesome to know that with all of the times we disappoint Him, we actually do have the ability to make Him smile at us.  Let’s take it seriously…pray, read your Bibles, and then pray and read some more.  Let’s make God proud!

Remember, we don’t want 2008 to be a carbon copy of 2007.  We are already a little over one month into the new year.  His mercy has kept us standing, but let’s admit we haven’t completely surrendered to Him.  With this fast and even beyond the 21-days, Let’s start playing by the rules so that we can attain the victory.  Let’s check ourselves!  Ask yourself…”What’s my motive?”  Are we saying, “Lord I want to do your will” when we mean, “Lord, I want to put your name on my will.”  Christ knows our hearts…remember that.  Let’s get it right with Him while we have the chance.

For everything you do in life, aren’t you generally put to the test?  Evaluated?  God tests our faith and our testimony.  FAITH THAT CAN’T BE TESTED, CAN’T BE TRUSTED!  Live for God in your personal, private, leisure time.  There is a big difference between testing and tempting.  Satan tempts us to destroy our testimonies.  God tests us to build our testimonies, to develop, and to discipline us!  During this fast and beyond, let’s pray for the wisdom to know the difference.

When one believer stands, another is encouraged to do the same!!

Our Usher Day Celebration is coming up fast on Sunday February 10th.  Pastor Kevin Mincey of The Disciples of Christ will be joining us in giving honor to God for us having the best Ushers in Washington, DC!!!  Let’s not wait until Sunday…let’s make sure we constantly tell them how much they mean to us.

Let’s also remember to keep our Pastor, Stephen Joyce in prayer.  He is one of the most committed, hard-working, men of God on the planet.  We ask that God continue being a light unto his feet and keep Him strong.  We pray that his continued obedience is pleasing in God’s sight.  We are thankful for his dedication and unselfishness.

Last, but not least:
Give God the glory in all you do.  Praise Him every chance that you get folks.  Worship Him with an open heart and with gladness.  Spread the Gospel.  Love one another.

“TAKE THE TIME?”

Today’s service was touching from beginning to end.  In particular, the sermon was titled “Is There Room In Your Inn?”  Pastor Joyce preached from Luke 2:7.  Do you take the time…do you give God His just due in our lives?  You need to devotionally sit at His feet daily.  Do you take the time to be still and pray?  If not, there’s no time like the present.  Jesus wasn’t born and didn’t die to be a silent guest for dinner at your apartment, He came to be the MANAGER of the entire apartment complex in which you live!!  Ask yourself a question, DO YOU SPEND MORE TIME WITH YOUR MATE THAN YOU DO WITH HIM?  Let’s not forget that we are to put Christ above everything and all things.  While we’re running a proverbial rat-race…being so caught up and busy in our day to day, we forget the one who gave us the strength to be so busy; the one who makes everything possible.  His name is Jesus Christ!
This Christmas season, let’s reaffirm our committment to Him who gave us a new beginning.  Let’s give God UNRESTRICTED ACCESS to our lives and stop giving the Devil a foothold!

Our children and toddlers put on a wonderful short-play and depiction of the Nativity.  We praise God for their little innocent spirits and their blooming talents and we also thank God for the adults who took the time to work with them, create costumes, and teach them dialogue.  It was awesome!!

This Wednesday is December 26th.  Bible Study is cancelled for that day.

Next week, let’s prepare our hearts and minds to worship, fellowship, and simply have fun with one another for our New Years Eve celebration.  If it’s anything like last years party, it’s going to be off the hook!  Great food, music, dancing, and testimonies to bring the new year in right!  Let’s be together to bring in 2008…a family in Christ!

We want to praise God for the turnout of THIRTY-FOUR women on AMFB’s Women’s Retreat this past weekend!  We exhalt His name on high for the brokenness that took place; changed lives and breakthroughs.  The ladies spent much of their time learning how to recognize the “Inner Me”…when the flesh fights to win over what they know God’s plan is for their lives.

“BABY DEDICATION”

Baby Christian Fuller was dedicated to God in our Sunday service.  His mother Saquila, said that she wants her son to know the Lord!  It was a blessed and wonderful time, in the presence of the baby’s family and friends and most importantly, in the presence of Jesus Christ!

Pastor Joyce anointed his head with oil and prayed over him.  Hallelujah!!

Countdown to the Womens Retreat is almost over!  The ladies leave on Friday afternoon at 1pm from the church.  The excitement is overwhelming!  They will be back on Sunday…just in time for worship service.

“REST FOR THE WEARY”

Jesus said, “Come unto me and I will give thee rest.”  Pastor Joyce’s sermon today really hit home for a lot of us in the congregation.  How many of us really take Him at His word?

Many of us are burdened in so many areas of our life; worry, anxiety, addictions, jobs, sin, guilt of sin, loneliness…the list goes on and on.  While some of us talk about how good the Lord has been to us (because we know that He has) and speak on the joy that He has put into our lives, some of us actually have no peace within.  The conflict of that must be amazingly overwhelming.  We are often so caught up within ourselves that we miss the message…we don’t hear His still, quiet voice.

Remember, we are to be in constant relationship with Jesus…not in religion with Him.  We shouldn’t get caught up in the religion aspect of Christianity.  If we do, we are missing the entire point of what God wants from us.  In Matthew 11:28 & 29, the word rest was mentioned twice.  The 1st time it was mentioned to reference salvation and justification.  The 2nd time, it was referencing completion and soul sanctification.  Unbelief is sin!  Let’s stop struggling with this!!  Cast our cares on Him and BELIEVE Him when He said that He’ll take it!!!  He takes the burden of sin and guilt away.  When we come to Christ, we don’t come to release “stuff”.  When we take His yolk upon us, He begins to guide and by faith, we are called to follow.  When God saved us, we became partners with Him…co-laborers, so to speak.  Let’s claim it and live our everyday lives as though we believe Him…starting now!

What a powerful word Pastor Joyce.  We are greatful to have you back from the Grace Brethren mission-based trip to Mexico last week.  You absorbed powerful testimonies over there and brought back with you an intense and wonderful energy.  We will pray for you as you work to implement some of the awesome things that God has put on your heart to do with and for our ministry as a result of your experience.

We had some renewed affirmations to Christ as well as a new person join the church today.  What a wonderful blessing as God continues to mold About My Father’s Business Outreach Ministry into what He’d have it to be.  We pray that we will be exceedingly obedient to His will.

COUNTDOWN TO THE WOMEN’S RETREAT!!!  We praise God for what He is doing with the Women within our church.  The ladies leave on October 19th and God’s anointing is all over this upcoming trip.  The excitement is building!  18-days remaining.
