“KEEP HOPE ALIVE”

Question:  Fried, baked, barbequed chicken, macaroni & cheese, string beans, cabbage, corn, songs, and prayer are all parts of what?  Give up?  Our Women’s Homeless Shelter Ministry.  We praise God that He allowed us to see another 4th Saturday to be a part of such a blessed ministry.

Pastor Doug and Pastor Rough of Liberty Grace (PA) came down as they often do, to assist us this evening.  Many of these women are struggling with serious issues…drug addiction, mental illness, depression, a criminal background, and more.  Often times they are resistant to talk of God.  Many of them are disrespectful and flippant.  In their view, God has forsaken them and they don’t want to hear the God is SO good speech because their circumstances are undesireable.  Pastor Doug spoke to them honest and candidly.  In his words, “I’m not going to blow smoke at you.  I’ve never been in your situation.  I’ve never been on the streets before.  But I know that God delights in us when we allow ourselves to be vessels within our circumstance.  Instead of thinking that God has turned his back on you, believe that He aims to use you to bring someone closer to Him.”  Well said Pastor Doug!  The message was well received and as a result, several were prayed for and with.

We ask The Lord to continue to give our church a heart for outreach.  If you want to make a positive difference in these women’s lives; if you have a heart to help by cooking, praying, assisting with food purchase, and/or using a talent gift as ministry, please contact us to find out how.

Last night was our Women’s Fellowship Ministry.  Every 4th Friday night at 8pm, the ladies of our church meet in fun and love at one of their homes.  This ministry was dormant for some time, but we praise God for it being active once again.  We ask that all women interested will mark their calendars and see fit to bring a friend or two.  This Friday, it was held at Sister Aprile and Sister Barbara’s home in Laurel.  Next month’s location will be announced.  Come out for a wonderful time in Christ!

Hope to see you all tomorrow…10am Sunday School and/or 11:15am Service.

God bless and keep you.

“WE ARE CONQUERERS”

Praise The Lord…we’re finally up and running again!!  All of the negative computer issues, program glitches and server problems have now been resolved.  Now we can get back to keeping you all abreast of things happening here at AMFB!

It’s difficult to compensate for lost time, but to recap:  On Sunday April 15th, we had the pleasure of a guest preacher; Pastor Jim Snavely.  He preached a wonderful word from Matthew 28:19-20 and Acts 1:7-11 titled The Holy Huddle.  He spoke about what he considers to be an unfortunate plight for far too many churches…a church that doesn’t reach out into the community, a church that is only interested in what’s going on within their church walls, a church that commences to ‘huddle’ amongst one another aren’t spreading God’s love to those in most need and that is not good.  Aiming to be more like Jesus is truly what all churches, regardless of denomination need to do in order to lead the lost to be saved.

Pastor Snavely (and his wife Kitty) are very important to us.  In many ways, he is a large encouragement to us and he rejoices in our vision to see the big picture, in terms of the importance of having a representation of Grace Brethren Church within the Washington, D.C. inner-city.

We have continued to be diligent in having our usual weekly ministries; Tuesday and Thursday Choir rehearsals, Tuesday night Bible Study (men’s shelter location), Wednesday night Bible Study (7:30pm here at AMFB) including last night’s continued trek through the Gospel Transformation series, and Street Evangelism (3rd Saturday’s).

Friday April 20th, many of our adult members had a night out on The Spirit of Washington for a Christian Entertainment Cruise.  It was a great time in Jesus name! {check out photos in the Activities and Ministries album

This past Sunday, Pastor Joyce preached from Luke 8:1-15 (touching on 1st Timothy 5:6) in a sermon titled, WHY AREN’T PEOPLE RESPONDING TO THE GOOD NEWS OF GOD’S KINGDOM?  From complacency to false information, there are countless reasons to answer the question.  Too many of us church folk have divided hearts…one foot in the world, the other foot in the church.  There are countless, incomparable rewards for following the will of God and His kingdom is one of them.  Unfortunately, things of the flesh sway us away from the rewards He has for our lives.  We must live determined…completely separated from that of the world.  No one said that approach would be easy, but we mustn’t live by the Deterring, Disappointment, or Demonic factors.  Don’t give up on God just because everything doesn’t go just as we’d like it to.  Trust that He knows what’s best for us and relinquish control to He who ultimately has it anyway.

Come pick up a copy of this soul-stirring sermon for yourself!  While you’re at it, come hear our anointed Pastor for yourself…Sunday morning service starts promptly at 11:15am.

We are pleased to say that our Easter 2007 photo album is finally complete, up, and ready to be viewed.

It appears as though we will be able to post a new blog tomorrow.

Thanks for your continued patience.

“HONOR AND POWER”

Our Easter service was such a wonderful, blessed event.  From the early morning breakfast, to the 11am service…songs, sermon, first on-site baptisms, visitors, and more, God was in the midst from beginning to end.

This whole week has been one of rest, reflection, and rejuventaion for us…taking in all that God has done and continues to do within our church and lives and continuing the work(s) God has for us to bring people closer to Christ.  We are excited about God, outreach, and leading souls to be saved.

** Stay tuned for more photos from Sunday’s glorious Easter service!

“REFLECTIONS”

As we approach Easter Sunday, we reflect on and remember the great miracle of Christ’s resurrection and what it meant for us.  In many instances within world standards, Easter has become just another pagan holiday, identified by things that have no biblical relevance such as decorative eggs and bunny rabbits. We are thankful for the fun times that our Christian holiday’s bring…the levity that allows our children to have fun in Christ while being taught true meanings are welcomed and looked forward to; but Christ, His sacrifice, and miracles, are why we praise.  We’re excited for all that God has done, past and present within our church and within our lives.  We are overjoyed that He has allowed us to see another year to celebrate Easter with our fellow Christians.  We look to our future and strive to live faithful Christian lives.  We want to continue growing stronger as a body of Christ and continue spreading the good news!!

We will be having an Easter Brunch from 9am until 10:45am.  Invite a friend, family member, and /or loved one and bring your appetites.  We will also be having our 1st on-site baptism service!  Perhaps you’ve been baptized in the past, but didn’t do so with a full understanding or with a full committment to the Lord.  We invite you to be baptized anew. What a better day to show and witness to Heaven and Earth your faith to God than by being baptized on the day that we celebrate His resurrection?  Hallelujah!!

This past week was full and productive in Christ.  Our choir has been hard at work preparing to minister for Easter service.  We praise God for their committment.  Thank you Lord for allowing convicting in them a spirit of wanting to use their vocal talent(s) to serve and worship your holy name.

Our Gospel Transformation Series of Wednesday Night Bible Study continues to teach, uplift, and compel believers closer to the will of God.

Communion Sunday was anointed from beginning to end.  Brother Bill serenaded the congregation with a Gospel-Jazz trumpet selection.  We exhalt the name of Jesus for Bill’s testimony, talent, and willingness to use it within God’s house.

The Palm Sunday sermon was titled ‘Crunch Time’.  Pastor preached from Philipians 2:1-11 and Matthew 21:1-11.  The sermon was amazing and referrenced the COURAGE, CLAIM, and CALL of Christ.  There are free CD copies of that sermon, available within our sanctuary.  Come and pick one up and hear God working through our Pastor, for yourself.
