“SUFFICIENT GRACE”

Our fellow Grace Brethren church family from Penn Valley in PA, came down on Saturday (8/18) and spent the night to join us for worship service. While here, they allowed God to use them tremendously by helping us in outreach and ministry.

Amongst many other deeds, they assisted us in our “Community Day”! Cars lined up to get their free car washings

Painting within the church; our nursery and child classroom never looked better or brighter…

Re-tiling the bathroom floors

Cleaning the parking-lot

Helping to organize and giving out school supplies (courtesy of Grace Brethren Northwest Chapel of Ohio)…

Feeding the homeless at the shelter and more! With Penn Valley’s help, we were able to wash over thirty cars and gave out about 100 hot-dogs, all for free!

We praise God for their unselfish spirits and their presence here and truly look forward to seeing each and every one of them soon.

This week has been a true blessing. Our Sunday service was phenomenal. Our Tuesday night Men’s Shelter Ministry continues to inspire and give hope. Our Wednesday night Bible Study class continues in the Gospel Transformation series. This week, we learned that redemption brings us into a new community of believers and the importance of fellowship via church attendance. Our choir “Behind The Cross” continues to grow as a unit by practicing every Thursday evening. God is doing some wonderful things here at AMFB. Stay tuned for more information and updates on blessed events.

Continue to check the photo albums for periodic photo updates.

God bless and keep you all.

“COMMITMENT AND SERVICE”

Sunday’s sermon text came from the book of Joshua:14-24.  We are witnesses against ourselves.  We are to be committed to God in all circumstances…not just when it’s easy.  Although nothing pleases the devil more than for us to break God’s heart, the devil doesn’t make us sin.  Our own flesh is to blame.  We make our own choice(s) to sin.  Complete consecration embodies 3 things:  1) Being  2) Doing  and 3) Enduring.  Following God’s callings will ensure our service and commitment to our Lord and Saviour.  These include a call to decide, of determination, of proper decision making, and of declaration.  When will we understand that we do not function in our own strength?  We have to stop putting ourselves on a pdestal as though we idolize ourselves. We must continually ask God for His guidance of our decisions to better serve Him in every element of our lives.

Bible Study this evening was thought provoking and wonderful as it continues to be weekly.  You don’t want to miss out on these Gospel Transformation series of teachings.  Lives are changing through this ministry and yours can too.  We’d love to see you there next week!

Saturday the 18th is almost here!!  Penn Valley Grace brethren Church (PA) is coming down to team up with us in a “Gospel Car Wash”!  Come join us as we wash cars, eat hot dogs, and feed the homeless; while also making the surrounding neighborhood(s) aware that we (AMFB) exist right here in the heart of N.E., D.C.  Not only will it be a blessing…it’ll be fun!!

“GROWTH IN JESUS”

Thank you Lord for continuing to love us more than we love ourselves.  We praise you God for continuing to bless us individually and collectively.  You are a constant hedge of protection surrounding us and we ask that you give us the wisdom to be strong enough to live pleasing to your sight.

It’s been about a week.  Pastor and Mrs. Joyce, along with Minister Eric and Mrs. Jones have been out of town…from Ohio to Indiana.  The purpose of their trip has been a multi-faceted blessing, filled with seminars and classes used to help them within their position(s) of church ministries and leadership.

We are anxious to hear all about their experience and how what they learned will be applied within the context of About My Father’s Business Outreach Ministries…to God be the glory!!!  Pray for their safe return tomorrow.  We look forward to having them back for our 1st Sunday service.

“PULLED OUT OF THE FIRE”

Jude 23 reads: snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear — hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.

Can you go to New York without first leaving Washington, DC?  No.  Like wise, there is no acceptance of Christ without leaving sin.  Will we sin?  Yes, but are we seeking to make it right?  Are we hurting for disappointing God?  Are we repenting of our sins and meaning it in our hearts?

If your best friend is walking across the street with you, but he/she isn’t paying attention to the oncoming truck that is quickly approaching, will you stop to save yourself without saying anything to your friend…allowing him/her to be run over?  Of course not.  Although you can’t control the outcome, you will scream, yell, and do everything within your power to keep your best friend from getting hit by the truck.  Well, the same concept is applicable to us as born-again believers.  God has called us to be rescue workersThe church is God’s fire brigade!  Although we are not responsible for the salvation of our fellow man, it is our duty to spread the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour.  Their outcome isn’t in our hands, but we must scream, yell, testify, be a witness and example, and more to keep them from spending eternity in Hell.  God loved us enough to give his only begotten son.  Pulling one another out of the fire is the least we can do, but it’s also what God expects from us.

This sermon on Sunday was amazing.  Thank you Pastor Joyce for your continued excellence in delivering God’s uncompromised word to us.  We appreciate your love, committment, and time to your studies and to this church as a whole.  We love you!

It’s that time again!!!  Coming up on this Saturday July 28th, is our Women’s Homeless Shelter Ministry.  Come one…come all.  Get involved in the Ministry of Outreach!  For more information, please call or e-mail us to find out how you can be part of it.

“GOD PROVIDES”

Sunday July 8th, there was a sermon entitled, “A Shriveled Hand Healed; A Shriveled Heart Rejected”.  Mark Chapter 3 verses 1-6 was the focus.  The Saviour met a man with a shriveled hand…How many of us today have shriveled spirits that are warped inside?  Apply this question to the backslider.  Remember when your hand of faith was strong?  Remember when you came to worship within a house of prayer?  Well truly, is a church really a chruch if Christ is not the sincere focus…if He isn’t in the midst?  Many one time believers are migrating away from the church and downplaying it’s importance.  Do you come to church with anticipation of what God has in store for you?  Remember folks, church was originally God’s idea…it wasn’t something that was conceived of by man in the first place.  So, who are we to tear asunder?  We are not in a position to be saved or delivered if we don’t profess the need for Jesus in every area in our lives!

We praise God for the baptism that took place after that impactful sermon.

Each and every Tuesday evening, the Men’s Shelter Ministry takes place.  If you are interested in participating in this life altering ministry, please see Pastor Joyce.

Our Wednesday night Bible Study classes continue to be a blessing to all who attend.  The Gospel transformation series continues to enlighten and enrich.  (Luke 9:23) Jesus said to them all, “If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.”

“HE IS MERCIFUL”

Sunday’s sermon was titled Spiritually Blind.  II Kings 6:8-17 gave us an awesome reference point for this preached word.  Points that were touched on:  1) There are unseen realities all around us.  Just because we can’t see the air, doesn’t mean it’s not there to breathe.  2) Most men are blinded by these realities.  3) It is the Lord alone who can give us new vision.  4) Spiritual vision might be giving an answer to prayer.  5) Open eyes bring rest and contentment.

In various situations and when Christians are waiting on their breakthrough, they often say, “I’m just waiting on the Lord.”  What does that really mean?  Do you sit still…twiddling your thumbs?  Are you stagnant and non-progressive while expecting your blessing to appear?  We should definitly wait on the Lord and He will direct our paths.  Too often, we do things our own way and fail to heed to what God is trying to show us.  BUT, as we wait on the Lord, we need to continue working in the meantime…working toward building the kingdom in any way we can.  We often want the fullness of the blessing(s) without doing our job.  This is because many of us, no matter how much we proclaim our faith, are still looking through the eyes of unbelief.  When we are shown biblical example of how we should deal with certain situations, we tend to look at the people in those biblical examples as superhuman or being above our capability to follow God.  Remember, (James 5:17) Elijah was a man just like us.  So were countless others.  We must keep in that in mind as well as the fact that nothing is done or thought in darkness because God knows all.  We have to work on completely surrendering to, trusting, and believing God.

We were privledged to be able to partake of communion as well.  Symbolically eating of the body of Christ and symbolically drinking of His blood which was shed for our sins.

Let us not forget the delicious Love Feast dinners that were served directly after service.  So yummy, we just about ran out of food.  We thank the Usher board for their consistency in making our 1st Sunday’s so delightfully tasty!

Due to the 4th of July holiday, we did not have Bible Study class on Wednesday evening.  We are hopeful that the break didn’t give anyone the idea that they didn’t still need to feed themselves with the Word and prayer.  When we are away from our fellow church family who tends to keep us strong and accountable in the Lord, let’s make it our priority to engulf ourselves in reading our Bible and praying.

Tomorrow, we have a total of eight baptisms scheduled to take place.  We haven’t had any baptisms since our joyous Easter service.  So, we exhalt the name of Christ for another chance to do it all again.  As each person is submerged, lallow them to be an inspiration to you in your walk with the most high.  Let’s take it upon ourselves to renew our commitments to God and be steadfast to His will.

Until we meet again.

Saturday, June 23, 2007

We praise the Lord for our many blessings. We thank Him for a church of people we can call family; as well as a church who aims to reach the lost. Smile

The last couple of weeks have been pretty consistent in Christ with our regularly scheduled daily tasks. Our Sunday services–annointed, our Wednesday evening Bible Study’s–enlightening, our various Friday night Ministries (Men’s, Women’s, and Marriage)–uplifting, and our 4th Saturday Women’s Homeless Sheleter Ministry, which takes place today, continues to be a vessel of strength for them and for each of us who participate in it.

As we often say, we’d love to see more come out to be a part of this. It is not a sad place to be…we bring joy and positivity with us. It’s a good time in the Lord, while also reaching someone who needs Him. Remember, there is strength in numbers! Let’s make 2007 our year of getting more involved than we ever have.

“BE A TEMPLE”

Monday…our weekly day of rest, reflection, and rejuvenation.

The Gospel Transformation series of Bible Study is a phenomenal, life altering class for all who have committed to being a part of it.  The focus of Wednesday’s lesson was Galations 5:22-23 and the goal was to learn more about the fruit of the spirit; to strengthen our understanding of the relationship between the Spirit’s work and our obedience; and to distinguish between good fruit and its counterfeit.  Achieved!  What an excellent lesson!!  We praise God for out continued learning through our Bible Study classes.

Saturday was an AWESOME experience!  For anyone who didn’t come out to see the Gospel stage play ”Just When You Least Expect It”, you truly missed a blessed, anointed, and rare treat.  Minister Eric Jones along with his sister Lawanda created a divine vision for capturing comedy, sadness, contempt, and joy all on one stage.  The actors were phenomenal and the talent was beautiful…straight from the Lord.  We pray that the play will get picked up by a major investor and/or sponsor to get the type of exposure it needs.  It’s soul-stirring, riveting, and has the potenial to be a vessel to save many lost souls.  Any inquiries on how to get a DVD of the show, please go to www.daddy5productions.com

Yesterday, Pastor Joyce preached from Romans Chapter 12 verses 1&2 in a sermon titled, “Fully Concecrated”.  We need to renew and transform our minds.  We have to stop attempting to follow the world.  If you don’t have the Spirit of God living within you, you are not of God.  Christ shouldn’t be an addition to your life, He should be your entire life.  We must honor Him in the presentation of our bodies, in our life dedication, and in our minds.  Don’t say that you will die for your faith, if you won’t even begin to take the necessary steps to live for Him.  We have to realize that as Christians, we set the bar.  We must stop being luke warm like the church of Laodacia.  We must be willing and ready to set ourselves apart…devote ourselves completely to God at all times.  Anything else isn’t good enough for the one that gave His only son, that we may have life.
